Project Brief:  Film Festival Poster Design

For this project, students were tasked with developing a surreal poster for the Chicago Underground Film Festival (CUFF). Assigned the theme “Something Blue”, students were required to use photographic means to produce the final work. The title of the festival was required to be directly incorporated into the imagery, along with secondary copy that included the annual, location, date, website, and event descriptor.

Project Brief:  Social Media Campaign

In this project, students were required to select a brand that they wished to develop a social campaign for. During this process, students had to develop an in-depth evaluation of the brand’s curent audience, and the choices that were currently being made in order to reach said audience. From there, they were required to conceptualize a new desired audience to target, and create 3 subsequent designs to reach them. Of the additional requirements, each design had to showcase an item from the brand, as well as incorporate a form of wordplay into their type.

Project Brief:  Experimental Portrait

For this project, students were randomly assigned partners within their class. Their goal was to create an experimental portait that, when displayed, caused audiences to stop and look closer or invited a reaction. Students were not allowed to use photoshop, and had to experiment with their camera, lighting, model, and props in order to create their final outcome.

Project Brief:  Restaurant

Assigned one of four local restaurants in State College, students are tasked with strategizing and rebranding the restaurant. A key focal point to this project is to learn about the difference between a concept and a stylization choice, and how the two can compliment eachother toward a cohesive, cognizant design solution. Students are unable to change any menu items or copy, and instead need to carefully consider how to bring a new life back to their assigned restaurant.

.additionalfeatures

I put a lot of my time and energy into the learning experience of my students. To some degree, it feels wrong to not feature all of them, though I know the plausibility of that in such a small space is simply not there. I am proud of the work that every single one of them has accomplished through the rigorous courses I’ve had the pleasure of teaching them in. Compiled here is a short list of additional awards that my students have attained, and a few snapshots of their pieces as well.
